PLANET-X founder Joseph Tang was educated as an architect at the University of Michigan. Prior to the founding of PLANET-X in 2016, Joseph worked at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and later at Buro Ole Scheeren as an associate and senior architect.
PLANET-X’s mission is to re-imagine the monstrous beasts, giant robots and fictitious heroes that fascinated us as children, and turn them into high quality collectible soft vinyl figures that act as vessels of our favorite childhood memories.
While drawing major inspirations from vintage Japanese soft vinyl toys, PLANET-X also learns from other popular toys and action figures with the aim to achieve in its products a unique aesthetics that embraces pleasing proportions, eye-catching color schemes and contemporary detailing.
Apart from crafting its original designs, PLANET-X is authorized by Tsuburaya Productions to design and produce a line of nostalgic soft vinyl figures depicting characters from ULTRAMAN series, JUMBORG ACE, FIREMAN and DINOSAUR WAR IZENBORG. Dynamic Planning has also granted PLANET-X the rights to produce soft vinyl toys of their iconic characters including MAZINGER Z, DEVILMAN and GETTER ROBO. MANDARAKE, Medicom Toy and Hakaba Gallery are amongst PLANET-X's many collaborators.
