Gilbert Yam

Gilbert Yam (artist, graphics designer and art toy designer)

After finishing his study of fine art and graphic design in Canada, Gilbert returned to Hong Kong pursuing his career in graphics design and as a lecturer in a design College.  Later on, he established his own company which provide branding and graphics design services for renowned local and international companies. Work asides, Gilbert participates actively in local art and design activities.  He was also invited to organize an exhibition of his artworks in the Hong Kong Fringe Club.  For many years, he provided voluntary services and advices to a local youth organization on the advertisement of its various activities.  Gilbert also helped the association for stray dogs and cats in designing products for fundraising.

In recent years, Gilbert begins to design art toys. With keen interest in Japanese toy and culture, he hopes to create art toys with his own ideas and personal style and technique.  The series of Kama Kitsune was developed and evolved from the Japanese Yokai fox. There are over 20 versions for the main character Kama and it’s variations Tidal Wave and Carol, including some crossover collaboration with famous art toy designers in Japan and Taiwan.  The series of Kama Kitsune has participated in many art toy exhibitions in Hong Kong and overseas.

Apart from the Kama Kitsune series, Gilbert has created an humorous character Exhausted Neko, which is a cat with a laid-back attitude while at work but could turn to a cool tiger in a party.
